Checking the machine for blockages

If the machine is not picking up as well as usual, it will indicate that the filter needs washing or there is a blockage. Please see the steps below:

Remove the tool and check the inlet for any blockages.

Open the bin lid to remove any debris inside the bin.

Remove the bin fully by pulling the tab at top of the clear bin.

Check the inlet, cyclone and shroud for any blockages.

Clean any debris from the shroud with a cloth or soft dry brush to remove the fluff and dust.

Replace the bin ensuring it clicks in to place.

Rebuild and test the machine.

Is there anything else we can help with?

Please select the appropriate option

Thermal cut out

Most Dyson vacuums have a built in safety system that stops the machine if it begins to overheat. This usually happens because the filters need washing or your machine is blocked.

If your machine cuts out, leave it for at least an hour to cool down and don't put the machine on charge.

Any non-domestic use may adversely affect the filter performance such as vacuuming up builders dust.

Charging the battery

When the machine is plugged in, the battery uses a small amount of charge to check if the battery needs to be charged.

The battery life will slowly reduce over the period of approximately one week before being fully charged again.

This means that if the machine is on charge for approximately 5-7 days and then used, the run time will be reduced.

Run down the battery until flat and then place the machine on charge for 3 hours.

If you are calling back after trying this and this instruction has not resolved the issue, please select 'recharging not resolved'.

Run time

The Dyson handheld is designed to give constant suction. Other handhelds clog and lose suction as soon as they are switched on.

Unlike other handhelds, when fully charged DC16 should have between 4.5 - 6 minutes of powerful suction in optimum conditions.

The ideal amount of time for small jobs around the house. (Differences in ambient temperature can cause this difference). The machine will automatically cut out after this time to make sure it gives top performance every time.

Other machines may last slightly longer but they lose suction dramatically and do not provide such effective cleaning power.

To get the best performance from your handheld make sure you replace it back in its docking station after use to top up its charge.
