How to clean the bin and cyclone

Remove the clear bin by holding the machine by the handle and pulling the red lever back, and then lift upwards to release the cyclone.

Press the red Bin release catch located to the rear of the clear Bin.

Remove the clear Bin fully.

Clean the bin with a damp cloth only. Do not use any detergents, polishes or air fresheners to clean the bin. Do not put the bin in the dishwasher.

Clean the cyclone shroud with the brush on the combination tool to remove lint and dust.

Do not immerse the whole cyclone unit in water or pour water into the cyclones.

Ensure the bin is completely dry before replacing. To replace the bin, push it up and in to the Main body of the machine until it clicks in to place.

Close the bin base so it clicks into place and is secure.

Assembling your Dyson machine

Attach the Wand to the machine via the bin inlet.

Attach the floor tool to the end of the Wand until it clicks.

Installing the wall dock

Please note that wall fixings are not included with the dock.

Feed the charger cable through the rear of the dock, ensuring it is held via the retainer clip as shown in the image.

Clip the end of the charger cable in the small bracket located to the front of the dock assembly until it clicks.

When securing the dock to the wall, ensure there is a distance of 1200m/47¼” from the floor. This is to allow the machine to sit in the dock without touching the floor.

All the tools provided with the machine fit directly to the Wand or the bin inlet.

Click the tools to the end of the Wand, ensuring the connections line up.

Remove the Wand. Place the tools directly onto the bin inlet until they click.

Finding the serial number

The serial number can be found underneath the machine on the battery.

High pitched whistle

A high pitch whistle could indicate a seal is damaged or the machine is blocked.

Please follow the performance route.

Check the sound

Remove all tools and accessories from the machine.

Put the machine in MAX power mode by sliding the switch towards max.

Pull and hold the trigger for 10 seconds.

Does the machine pulsate and cut out without any tools?

Check the bin inlet

With the bin removed, check the bin inlet flap for blockages and remove as necessary.

Ensure that it moves freely. Fluff or fibres jamming the hinge can cause the flap to close resulting in low suction and a pulsating noise.

Close the bin base - hold the bin so that the inlet is pointing to the floor and shake the bin.

Does the bin rattle?

Check the cyclone

Clean shroud using the brush part of the combination tool.

Clear the centre of the cyclone of any dirt or debris.

Check that the seals are not missing or damaged:

FDC seal between the cyclone and the bin base.

Seal between the cyclone and the top of the bin.

Seal around the bin base.

Reassemble and test machine.

Has checking the cyclone and seals resolved the problem?

Checking the Wand

Remove the Wand from the bin inlet.

Check both ends of the Wand for blockages and remove as necessary.

Re-assemble and test the machine.

Has checking the Wand resolved the problem?

Ensure the appliance is disconnected from the charger before removing the filter. Be careful not to pull the 'ON' trigger.

Remove the filter

To remove the filter, lift it out of the top of the machine.

Washing the filter

With cold water only, run water over the outside of the filter until the water runs clear.

Turn the filter upside down and shake to remove any excess debris.

Squeeze and twist the filter with both hands to make sure the excess water is removed.

Lay the filter on its side to dry. Leave to dry completely for a minimum of 24 hours.

Do not put the filter in a dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer, oven, microwave or near a naked flame.

Replacing the filter

To refit the filter, place the dry filter back into the top of the machine. Ensure it is fitted properly.

This indicates that the bin entry inlet is jammed.

Recheck the flap and push it open by hand a few times until it is free.

Can the flap be pushed open by hand?

Test the floor tool

Attach the main floor tool directly onto the bin inlet (without the Wand).

The floor tool shown may vary from the product selected but the process remains the same.

Press and hold trigger for 10 seconds.

Does the machine pulsate and cut out with the floor tool attached?

Clear the floor tool

With the floor tool removed from the machine, remove the lower soleplate and undo one fastener.

Remove Brush bar and clear away any hair or fibres.

Check the openings for any blockages and remove as necessary.

Refit the Brush bar ensuring that no bristles get stuck in either end.

Has clearing the floor tool resolved the problem?

Check the bin inlet

Clear the floor tool

With the floor tool removed from the machine, turn over and undo the fastener.

Rotate the end cap to unlock and remove.

Remove the Brush bar and clear away any hair or debris.

Pull end cap away from the Brush bar, clean and reconnect.

Check the openings for any blockages and remove as necessary. Replace the Brush bar.

Use a coin to lock the fastener, then reassemble and test the machine.

Has checking the floor tool resolved the problem?

Check the bin inlet

Pull the red lever located on the top of the machine upwards until the bin flap is open.

Press the red Bin release lever, located to the rear of the clear bin.

Check the bin inlet ensuring that it moves freely. Fluff or fibres jamming the hinge can cause the flap to close resulting in low suction and a pulsating noise.

Does the bin rattle?

Clear the Mini motorised head

With the tool removed from the machine, unlock the endcap using a coin.

Check the opening for blockages and remove as necessary.

Refit the Brush bar ensuring that no bristles get stuck in either end, then reassemble and test the machine.

Has clearing the Mini motorised head resolved the problem?

Check the floor tool

Remove all tools and accessories from the machine.

Put the machine in MAX power mode.

Pull and hold the trigger for 10 seconds.

Is the noise still present?

Test without the bin

Pull the cyclone release catch upwards until the bin base opens.

Press the red catch once the bin base is open to release the bin assembly.

Push the cyclone down to click into place.

Press and hold the trigger for 10 seconds.

Please note the machine will only run with the cyclone on and pushed down.

Refit the bin

Pull the cyclone release catch upwards until the bin base opens.

To refit, locate the tabs at the back of the bin in the Main body, then push the bin up until it locks in place and the power connectors are fitted together.

Pull the power trigger.

A solid blue light will show when the machine is being charged and will go out when charging is complete.

Check for blockages

If the blue light is solid but the machine is cutting out please check your machine for a blockage somewhere in the machine.

Check the sound

Remove all tools and accessories from the machine.

Put the machine in max power mode by sliding the switch towards max.

Pull and hold the trigger for 10 seconds.

Does the machine pulsate and cut out without any tools?

Return to working temperature

This indicates that the machine is outside of it's normal operating temperature (5oc - 35oc).

Please place the machine in an area that stays within this temperature range and leave it to charge there for 3.5 hours.

Amber light while charging

If the machine was in MAX power mode when it ran out of battery, an amber light may show while it is charging.

This is normal and the light will go off before the end of the charge. Please leave the machine for 3.5 hours to recharge fully.

Does the machine have power?

Clear the mini motorised head

With it removed from the machine, remove the Brush bar from the Mini motorised head.

Using scissors carefully cut any hair or fibres away from the Brush bar.

Reassemble the tool and attach it to the machine.

Test the tool without putting it in contact with any surface.

Does the Brush bar still not work properly without any contact?

Check the bin inlet

Check the bin inlet connections to ensure that they are not bent or damaged.

Has checking the connection resolved the problem?

Check the floor tool

Place the main floor tool on directly on to the machine.

There are 3 phillips screws that need to be removed, prior to removing the battery.

Remove the post-filter, then using a small phillips screwdriver unscrew the screw located on the rear of the main body.

Place the Main body on its side, on a flat surface and locate the two screws near the battery.

Unscrew the screws and gently pull the battery away from the Main body.

Has this resolved the issue?

Removing the cyclone

Fully lift the red lever on top of the cyclone

Press the red lever located to the rear of the bin to fully remove the bin.

Behind the cyclone on the Main body of the machine are two cyclone release buttons.

Press either side and gently pull the cyclone upwards.

Has this resolved the issue?

Check the catch and tools

Check the catch on the bin inlet for blockages or damage.

Make sure that it moves freely and springs back into position when pressed.

Check the end of the Wand for signs of damage.

You might need a replacement part.

Talc

This is normal. Talc was used in production for the fitting of seals.

Further application of talc will not be required.

Sealed products are brand new and have not been resold as conditioned machines.

Check the bin inlet

The flap can become jammed by a build up of dirt and debris.

Open the bin base by lifting the lever on top of the cyclone.

Press the red Bin release catch located to the rear of the clear bin to remove the bin fully.

Clear any debris from behind the bin inlet flap.

Re-assemble and test the machine.

Scratches or marks on the Wand

Marks on the Wand can be caused when it has come into contact with a painted surface such as a door frame.

These can be removed by wiping with a damp cloth (Do not use any cleaning chemicals or solvents).
