FAQs about how to clean floor tile grout

Can I use a steam cleaner on my grout?

Steam cleaners work effectively on most types of tile grout. High-temperature steam loosens dirt, grime and bacteria without chemicals. Steam cleaning can be particularly effective in bathrooms, where mould and mildew accumulate.

However, overly aggressive steam cleaning can break down grout, making it softer and more porous, causing stains to return faster. Use moderate steam temperatures, keep the steamer moving rather than focusing heat on single spots, and only use steam cleaning methods once a month.

What's the best way to clean grout without replacing it?

Regular maintenance using proper techniques can keep grout clean, so you won’t need to worry about replacing it. Dirty mop water is grout’s biggest challenge; traditional mopping spreads contaminated water that grout absorbs. The Dyson Submarine™ wet roller head solves this problem by picking up liquids, debris and tough stains, which are continuously extracted from the roller with each rotation.

How do I prevent dust build-up on grout?

Regular vacuuming removes dust before it embeds into grout. Vacuum tile floors at least weekly, more often in high-traffic areas, and use soft brush attachments that reach into grout lines without scratching tiles.

Air purifiers reduce airborne particles that eventually settle on all surfaces, including floors. Dyson air purifiers capture pollutants before they settle, reducing the dust that lands on your floors and grout.
