Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the Supersonic™ hair dryer and the Supersonic Nural™ hair dryer?

The Supersonic Nural™  is our latest hair dryer technology. It has everything you love about our iconic Supersonic™ hair dryer, but with added intelligence. There is a network of Nural™ sensors in the machine that automatically activate the intelligent features within the hair dryer: Scalp protect mode, Attachment learning, and Pause detect. Both Supersonic™ generations include five attachments, engineered for all hair types, but the Supersonic Nural™ attachments have been re-engineered with unique magnetic IDs that enable Attachment learning when used with the Supersonic Nural™.

How often should I clean the filter?

To maintain optimum performance, your Dyson Supersonic™ hair dryer needs regular care and maintenance. We recommend cleaning the filter once a month. Debris should be wiped from the outer filter cage and from the inner filter mesh using a soft, dry cloth.

Can I buy new attachments if I already have a Dyson Supersonic™ hair dryer?

Yes, new attachments are fully compatible with older versions of the Dyson Supersonic™ hair dryer. You can find attachments and accessories for your Dyson Supersonic™ here.

Can I purchase the consumer Dyson Supersonic™ hair dryer as a professional stylist to use in my salon?

In salon environments, filters can clog more quickly with hairspray, so it’s best to purchase a Dyson Supersonic™ hair dryer Professional edition where the filter has been designed to meet the needs of a busy salon. The consumer warranty doesn’t cover use in commercial environments or if it’s used for 2+ hours a day.

What is the voltage and can I use it when traveling to countries with different voltages?

The voltage is 110-120V in the US. Your hair dryer has been precisely engineered for fast drying and styling at the voltage of the country in which it was purchased. As voltage varies from country to country, please follow the guidance on usage in the guarantee section of your user manual.

Can I use the Flyaway attachment on any hair type?

The Flyaway attachment should be used only on dry and straight hair or hair that’s been straightened.

How do I use the Flyaway attachment?

Hold the attachment at the top of your head until your hair is attracted to it. Then slowly run it down the length of your hair without pressing down on it.

What is the difference between the Dyson Supersonic r™ and Dyson Supersonic Nural™?

The Dyson Supersonic r™ is designed as a lightweight, professional-inspired hair dryer that brings salon-inspired design into the home. The Dyson Supersonic Nural™ focuses on intelligent drying support and personalised styling features. Both deliver fast drying while addressing different styling preferences.

Which hair dryer is best for thick hair?

Hair dryers with strong airflow, multiple heat settings and styling attachments can help dry and style thick hair more efficiently. The Dyson Supersonic Nural™ hair dryer includes a range of attachments designed to help manage different hair textures and styling needs.

What hair dryer is best for fine hair?

Fine hair often benefits from dryers with adjustable heat settings, allowing you to style at lower temperatures while helping minimise unnecessary heat exposure. The Dyson Supersonic Nural™ hair dryer features intelligent heat control and multiple settings that can help tailor styling to different hair types.

Which hair dryer is best for curly hair?

For curly hair, many people prioritise controlled airflow and styling attachments designed to support natural curl patterns. The Dyson Supersonic™ range is engineered to work across different hair types and styling preferences, helping people dry and style curly, wavy and coily hair. Diffuser attachments are designed to help define curls while maintaining natural texture.

What hair dryer is best for reducing frizz?
